The University of Adelaide has been ranked 73 in the world and fourth in Australia in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings released this week.
"The Times Higher Education 2010-11 World University Rankings has adopted new methodology which is more rigorous, more comprehensive and more detailed than previous rankings," says Professor James McWha, Vice-Chancellor and President.
"It means the process of evaluating the universities has been less open to ambiguous claims of reputation and heritage. The assessment focused on performance in teaching, research, research influence, international mix of staff and students and knowledge transfer.
"Rankings of 73rd in the world and 4th in Australia are wonderful results for the University and are shared by all our staff and students.
"It reflects the depth of our teaching and research excellence and firmly cements our position as one of Australia’s and the world’s most highly regarded institutions of higher learning.
"The announcement today is consistent with the QS rankings released last week, when we were again ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world."
