Government seeking ideas for Riverbank Precinct Back

24 January 2012

The State Government is calling for Expressions of Interest from groups or individuals for revitalising Adelaide’s Riverbank precinct, to be filed by the end of February.

“We are calling on interested parties to put forward their unique and innovative ideas which will truly bring the banks of the River Torrens to life,” says Minister for Infrastructure Patrick Conlon.

“Over the past two years, the Riverbank Precinct has been the focus of a number of major development proposals which are either in the delivery stage or proposed.

“There is a lot happening in this vibrant precinct – we have the Adelaide Oval redevelopment, the Adelaide Convention Centre expansion and many other projects on the cards.

The Minister says the draft Master Plan, released in late 2011, identified six key destinations that offer significant creative and public interest.

“There is a wealth of potential within the precinct, in particular, the idea of a Festival Square featuring cafes, restaurants and commercial buildings, which will prove to be a popular place for the community to come together,” he said.

“I am excited to see what exciting and inventive submissions are put forward as part of this EOI. I also look forward to the State Government and stakeholders, such as the Adelaide City Council and the Adelaide Festival Centre, working together to realise the full potential of the Riverbank Precinct and capture the vision and principles identified in the draft Master Plan.”
