BAE Systems wins $40 million contract to build anti-missile systems Back

Defence company, BAE Systems has secured a $40 million contract to build anti-ship missile defence technology to be used by the Australian, US and Canadian navies.

The systems will be an extension of the company’s highly successful Nulka device which BAE created in South Australia’s Edinburgh defence hub over ten years ago.

The Nulka involves a rocket propelled decoy system which aims to lure ship missiles away from their targets.

BAE Systems Program Manager, Simon Forrest, says the new contract will see production of the Nulka system continue until 2013.

“To date, 904 Nulka rounds have been produced. Later this year we will complete production of the 1000th round, which will be a very significant program milestone,” said Mr Forrest.
