Adelaide Convention Centre website targets $3bn Chinese tourism spend Back

Adelaide Convention Centre has jumped to grab a share of the growing $3bn Chinese visitor market to Australia with a pioneering Chinese language website.

Following Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s signing of a Tourism MoU during her visit to China this week, the Convention Centre is launching the first full Chinese language website of any Australian convention centre.

The ACC is the only convention centre in Australia to offer its entire website in Chinese, which the Centre’s Chief Executive, Alec Gilbert, says shows its commitment to attracting business from Australia’s largest trading partner.

The launch follows Adelaide Convention Centre’s recently announced partnership with Suntec International – a move to strengthen its ability to attract Asian business and professional conferences.

“Our strategic targeting of the Chinese market is not just based on building business for the Adelaide Convention Centre,” Alec says.

“Every convention attendee also spends money while they are in SA, stimulating a significant economic multiplier for the State. In the case of China, we also believe that familiarisation with our State and its wider economic activities among Chinese business leaders has the potential to attract significant interest and investment in South Australia.”

He says a growing number of direct flights from Asia to Adelaide had also allowed for better access to South Australia.
