For the first time Advantage SA will be partnering with the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RA&HS) in launching the Royal Adelaide Wine Show. 

The 134^th Royal Adelaide Wine Show will kick off this year with a launch event at The Wine Underground on Thursday 4 August. 

The official launch event will announce the appointment of Swede Madeleine Stenwreth MW as this year’s international wine judge.  In 2008 Madeleine became a Master of Wine, one of only two Masters of Wine in Sweden.  Madeleine’s dissertation on The Effect of Altitude on Malbec in Mendoze was awarded the Best Dissertation of the Year by the International Institute of Masters of Wine.

 Other members of the judging team this year include Huon Hooke, Andrew Cailard MW and Brian Croser AO.

The launch event will see a number of champions of industry in attendance including Advantage SA Foundation Members, RA&HS Board Members and Councilors, Wine Show committee members, Gramp, Hardy and Hill-Smith family members exhibitors and sponsors.

The Royal Adelaide Wine Show, a competition that continues to grow in esteem and relevance, is one of the pre-eminent wine shows in Australia. An average of 360 wineries from across Australia enter more than 2,500 different wines into the Wine Show annually.

RA&HS Board Member Andrew Hardy said the entries for the 2011 Wine Show are very strong.

“Considering the Wine Show has been in existence for more than one hundred years it’s pleasing to see the industry is still supporting the wine show system, and finds a commercial benefit in doing so,” said Mr Hardy.

A team of high profile Australian wine industry representatives judge the competition entries into the Royal Adelaide Wine Show. Following the judging in early October, a Declaration of Awards ceremony will be staged on Friday, 7 October 2011 in the Ridley Centre, Adelaide Showground.
