2010 Speakers in Schools Award Winners

Vassil Malandris  |  Metro Speaker Award
Vassil Malandris is an award-winning journalist who has worked in broadcast television for over 10 years. After much overseas work and travel, Vassil finally headed back to Australia to work for the SBS World News team in Sydney. Vassil spent several years at SBS as a Coordinating producer and journalist. His work also extended to help establish an online video news bulletin and produce street vision news promos for the Sydney rail network. Now back home in Adelaide, Vassil has spread his wings to current affairs, spending over 5 years as a senior reporter for the Today Tonight team.

Since joining the program Vassil has delivered 12 presentations in total and has participated in a tour to Broken Hill and Fresh FM interview. 


Regional Speaker Award  |  Sharron Jones
Sharron Jones grew up in the southern suburbs of Adelaide and [almost] completed 3rd year at Dover High School in 1979 before embarking on a diverse range of jobs. She began her teaching career in Port Augusta with a particular passion for Aboriginal education. Sharron took up the role of DECS Interagency Student Behaviour Management Coordinator, supporting students with challenging behaviours, their teachers, families and school communities to bring about positive change and improved education outcomes. She has since worked as Principal of Hawker Area School, Executive Officer at UniSA focusing on regional engagement and has now returned to Adelaide and is currently a Partnership Broker for the Fleurieu & Kangaroo Island School Business Community Partnership Program.

Since joining the program, Sharron has delivered 7 presentations.


Program Ambassador Award  |  Michael Foreman
Michael is very keen to pass on his knowledge and ideas to students and potential future members of the Building and Construction industries. Michael's decision to join the industry was made after listening to a young professional speak about their Engineering career when he was in year 8 at high school, and hence sees Speakers in Schools being very relevant for young people. Michael has had a wide range of experience in the Building and Construction Industry. Michael has been involved in many projects that involved multi-level stakeholder management including Adelaide's own home of the pandas! Currently Michael is a Project Manager with ISIS Group Australia.

Since joining the program, Michael has delivered 19 presentations. Michael has participated as an MC at a Speaker Training Forum and participated in a Fresh FM interview.
